Weekly Update: Stories, Surveys, and … We’re Hiring!


The legislature is in full swing and we’re working on some of our members’ key priorities, such as raising the minimum wage and enacting a paid family and medical leave insurance program.

To help ensure that we pass these bills with the veto-proof majority that y’all helped elect last November, we need to hear from you!

The stories of everyday Vermonters are the stories that have the most impact on legislators as they make crucial policy decisions. You can give us your information in confidence, or we’ll work with you to tell your story to lawmakers directly via legislative testimony – either in person or in writing.

We especially want to hear from folks who:

  • Struggle to pay their bills earning the current minimum wage
  • Work in the service industry and make sub-minimium wage (and/or work for tips)
  • Have been denied back pay or overtime
  • Have been denied breaks at work
  • Have been retaliated against for speaking up about working conditions
  • Have been forced to take unpaid leave to care for a new child or a sick or injured loved one (parent, spouse, grandparent)

In addition, we’re collecting information as part of a short survey of sub-$15 an hour workers. Please consider taking this survey, or passing it along to someone you know. It only takes a few minutes.

Finally, we just wrapped up our March Town Hall meetings with Lt. Governor David Zuckerman and our sister organization the Rights & Democracy Education Fund.

We have more planned in April in Hardwick, Vergennes, Waitsfield, Montpelier, Bennington, and White River Junction (with possibly more to come!)
